Orange County High School Football PREP EXTRA : Okland’s Interception Saves Calvary Chapel

Calvary Chapel’s Alex Okland intercepted a pass at his own 15-yard line with 1 minute 30 seconds to play, thwarting a second-half comeback as the Eagles beat Los Angeles Baptist, 14-12, in a nonleague game Friday at Alemany High.

Calvary Chapel (2-0) scored on a one-yard run by quarterback Waylan Kruse on the opening drive of the game and a two-yard run Neil Sharkey late in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

L.A. Baptist (0-2), held to seven total yards in the first half, gained 202 yards in the second half, including a one-yard touchdown run by Joe Romero in the third quarter that cut Calvary Chapel’s lead to 14-7.

Chris Ross led L.A. Baptist with 98 yards in 17 carries. Quarterback Robin Woo completed five of 13 passes for 86 yards and Romero rushed for 31 yards in eight carries.
