Notre Dame High needed only one half to decide Friday night’s nonleague game against visiting Glendale.

The Knights muscled their way to touchdowns on their first four possessions then called off the dogs en route to a 38-0 victory that improved their record to 3-0.

Junior quarterback Ryan Bowne, who completed eight of 10 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, led Notre Dame on scoring marches of 62, 53, nine and 50 yards as the Knights built a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

Notre Dame was headed for a fifth touchdown shortly before halftime when fullback Don Ebenhoch fumbled at the Glendale four-yard-line.

No matter. Glendale (0-3) had yet to complete a pass or make a first down--something the Dynamiters finally accomplished late in the third quarter on a 13-yard completion from Jeremy Callister to Tommy Lee.

By that time, Notre Dame’s reserves were in the game for good.

“I thought we played pretty well in the first half,” Notre Dame Coach Kevin Rooney said. “We threw it a little bit, we ran a little bit.”

Tailback John Garcia, who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns in 13 carries, capped the game’s opening drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Ebenhoch, who led all rushers with 69 yards in seven carries, accounted for 18 yards on the drive--12 on a draw play.

Bowne connected with Troy Garner for a 13-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second quarter to make it 14-0.

Less than two minutes later, Bowne ran nine yards on a bootleg for another touchdown to give Notre Dame a 21-0 lead.

Following Glendale’s third futile possession, the Knights drove 50 yards in seven plays to take a 28-0 lead on Garcia’s 16-yard touchdown run.

Glendale moved the ball with a little success during the second half, but never threatened to score. Callister completed only five of 13 passes for 60 yards--35 on a pass to Lee in the third quarter.

Backup Mauricio Pena was unable to complete a pass in three attempts. Tailback Jason Klintworth led Glendale with 31 yards rushing in nine attempts.

Notre Dame outgained Glendale, 252 yards to 103.
