Mystery Writers to Sign Books This Weekend : E.W. Count, Polly Whitney and Rochelle Krich will bring their latest sleuthing works to Thousand Oaks.

When mystery writers tour California to promote their books, they naturally headfor Mysteries to Die For, 2940 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks. On Friday, New York authors E.W. Count (“Cop Talk”) and Polly Whitney (“Until Death”) will be at the bookshop at 6 p.m. Rochelle Krich will sign “Angel of Death” at 1 p.m. Sunday. Her chilling mystery, “Where’s Mommy Now,” will be on television this fall starring Teri Garr.

The acclaimed Nicaraguan poet, Gioconda Belli, winner of the Casa de las Americas prize, will be at Ventura Bookstore, 522 E. Main St., at 7 p.m. Friday to read from her novel “The Inhabited Woman.” It reportedly has sold more than 500,000 copies in Latin America and Germany.

Because of cutbacks in county support, the Camarillo Friends of the Library have pledged to increase their monthly donation to the library. Their major fund-raiser is a book sale scheduled from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A big white tent will rise at the corner of Las Posas Road and Daily Drive.

James Miller’s “The Convergence” is a thriller set in the near future describing an America at the mercy of the Mideast oil cartels. Miller, a lawyer and environmental activist who is now a full-time writer, will sign his novel at 3 p.m. Saturday in Barnes & Noble, 4360 E. Main St., Ventura.

Sarah Weeks, co-creator of “Crocodile Smile--Ten Songs of the Earth as the Animals See It,” will read and sing at 10 a.m. Monday in Adventures for Kids, 3457 Telegraph Road, Ventura.
