PREP ROUNDUP : No. 6 Brea-Olinda Falls to Tustin in Water Polo

Tustin’s tough defense was the decisive factor in its 5-1 upset of sixth-ranked Brea-Olinda Friday in a quarterfinal game of the North Orange County water polo tournament.

Dave Foley and Marshal Bauernfeind each scored two goals and Jim Lowe added one for the Tillers. Tyler Sundberg had five saves for Tustin (13-5).

Eric Mathews scored the lone goal and Tim Bischel had 11 saves for Brea-Olinda (6-2).

In other tournament games:

Trabuco Hills 10, Marina 9--Jimmy Bray and Todd Valentine each scored three goals and Chris Wright recorded six saves to lead Trabuco Hills (12-7).

Newport Harbor 9, La Serna 5--Chris Seib scored four goals and Graham Harvey had six saves to lead Newport Harbor (7-7).

Costa Mesa 11, Laguna Beach 8--Steve Popov had four goals and James Comfort added three for Costa Mesa (14-4).

In nonleague water polo:

Cypress 22, Bolsa Grande 17--Though the game was close, Cypress’ 11 goals in the first quarter were enough to keep them in front the entire way. Mark Slevcove and Aaron Cregor led Cypress (9-6) with four goals each and Erik Sandvig added three. Robert Fair had eight goals and John Ferguson added seven for Bolsa Grande (3-15).

In the Southern California water polo invitational:

Corona del Mar 16, Los Alamitos 8--James Palda and Thad Buzolich each scored four goals to lead second-ranked Corona del Mar (9-3).

Servite 12, Santa Barbara 8--Hun King had three goals and four steals for Servite (13-3).

In nonleague water polo:

Troy 26, Kennedy 5--Justin Link scored eight goals for host Troy (17-4), which had 10 players score.

In Golden West League girls’ volleyball:

Rosary 3, Santa Ana 0--Giovanna Franzia, Yolanda Faes and Sarah Cody had five kills each for Rosary (2-4, 2-1), which won, 15-2, 15-8, 15-9. Host Santa Ana is 0-6, 0-4.

Saddleback 3, Westminster 2--Thu Nghia had 11 kills for Saddleback, which beat Westminster, 15-12, 7-15, 7-15, 15-8, 15-10. Johanna Haggerty had 17 kills for Westminster (3-4, 1-2).

In Arrowhead League girls’ volleyball:

Southern California Christian 3, La Verne Lutheran 1--Tiffany Cleveland had five kills, four aces and 12 assists to lead visiting Southern California Christian (6-4, 2-2) 15-11, 15-7, 9-15, 15-13.

In South Coast League girls’ tennis:

Capistrano Valley 12, Trabuco Hills 6--Ashley Taylor swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0, and Kim Harnetiaux and Megan Bridges swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead host Capistrano Valley (5-9, 1-3).
