After a tough loss to unbeaten and second-ranked Mater Dei last week, Trabuco Hills Coach Jim Barnett was looking for a letdown.

If this was the Mustangs’ down week, Dana Hills should be pretty happy they didn’t catch Trabuco Hills on a good week.

The Mustang defense dominated the game and the rest of the team played well enough to spoil Dana Hills’ homecoming with a 35-7 victory in a South Coast League game at Dana Hills on Friday night.

“After playing a game against an unbeaten team and then coming in and playing against a team that hasn’t won a game, you just know there’s going to be some letdown,” Barnett said. “There has to be just a little bit.”

And that’s about all there was--a little bit.

The Mustang defense limited Dana Hills to 59 yards total offense. Trabuco Hills marched 71 yards in eight plays on its first drive and scored on Bobby Johnson’s one-yard run.

The Mustangs increased their lead when Collins threw 11 yards to Pintsak with 1:23 left in the first quarter to make it 14-0.

On the following kickoff, Dana Hills’ Brain Harrison let the ball bounce before picking it up on the goal line. Bad move.

Trabuco Hills defenders swarmed quickly to produce a safety and a 16-0 lead.

After Larry Harper ran four yards to give the Mustangs a 22-0 halftime lead, Collins threw eight yards to Jake Anderson to make the score 29-0. Trabuco Hills’ final points came when Junge ran six yards.

Dana Hills scored its only touchdown when B.J. Buck caught a six-yard pass from Scott Maynard with 2 minutes 15 seconds left in the game.
