Marcy Crouch gets most of the headlines when Marina wins in volleyball, but Lyon’s work is no less important to the Vikings. Case in point: Crouch had a career-high 41 kills in a five-game victory Thursday over then-fourth ranked Huntington Beach, but Marina Coach Jason Bilbruck was raving about Lyon’s 81 assists and 15 digs. “Jessica runs down every ball for us,” Bilbruck said. “She basically kept us in the last two matches because when our passing gets bad, she gets to every ball.” Lyon also had 37 assists and 10 digs in the Vikings’ four-game victory Tuesday over Fountain Valley.

Cross-country

* Santa Ana Valley, senior. Won the Century League title in a meet-record time of 17 minutes 30 seconds for three miles at Yorba Regional Park.

Tennis

Brandi Freudenberg

* El Modena, senior. Won her singles sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, as the Vanguards beat Canyon, 9-9 (74-70 in games). Also won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, in a 10-8 victory over Foothill.

Jessica Wilson

* Valencia, senior. Swept her singles sets, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, in a 9-9 (79-77 in games), victory over Brea-Olinda.

Volleyball

Charlene Conley

* Orange, senior. Had 22 kills in a three-game sweep of Villa Park. Orange also swept Santa Ana Valley to clinch at least a tie for the Century League title.
