PREP ROUNDUP : El Dorado’s Weisz Sweeps Teammate
Michelle Weisz of El Dorado defeated teammate Linda Surapruik in the singles final, 6-2, 6-1, on Wednesday in Orange League girls’ tennis finals.
In the semifinals, Surapruik and Weisz upset Katella’s Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Kristin Sakamoto and Patricia Villaroman, to advance.
In the doubles finals, El Dorado also was victorious with Brittany McMillan and Susan Surapruik defeating Cypress’ Shawna McKee and Ashley Lister, 6-3, 6-3.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Bray, Yim advance--Top-seeded Michelle Bray of Laguna Beach defeated Estancia’s Camella Jaeger, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the semifinals. Teammate Elizabeth Yim, second-seeded, defeated Estancia’s Kathleen Kanjer, 6-0, 6-1.
The top-seeded doubles team of Lindsey Weiss and Amanda Hastings-Phillips of Laguna Beach cruised into the semifinals, winning their match, 6-3, 6-1. Malavika Dore and Gillian Kane of University also advanced.
In the Sea View League:
Hawkins, Exon win--Top-seeded Sarah Hawkins of Newport Harbor swept Woodbridge’s Ayssa Artenian, 6-0, 6-0, and third-seeded Natalie Exon of Woodbridge beat Newport Harbor’s Vanessa Godbey, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to today’s semifinals. Nina Vaughan of Corona del Mar, seeded second, and Sarah Denson of Irvine, seeded fourth, also advanced.
In doubles, top-seeded Lindsay Olson and Katie Canright (Newport Harbor) swept El Toro’s Stephanie Maldini and Jenny Le, 6-1, 7-5, to advance to today’s semifinals. All four of the top seeded players advanced.
In the Sunset League:
Arvizu and Rosenthal advance--Top-seeded Allison Arvizu of Huntington Beach and Los Alamitos’ Melissa Rosenthal, second-seeded, advanced to the semifinals of the Sunset League.
Arvizu won, 6-1, 6-1, and Rosenthal went, 6-2, 6-0, in the quarterfinal round. In the quarterfinal doubles, Alison Miller and Michelle Schneider of Los Alamitos and El Dorado’s Tami Demaree and Susie Krum, also advanced.
In Arrowhead League girls’ volleyball:
Southern California Christian 3, Hamilton 0--Anne Cunningham had six kills in Southern California Christian’s 16-14, 15-10, 15-8 victory over Hamilton in a game that gave the Flames a playoff spot.
