In the Pacific Coast League:
Aliso Niguel girls’ win first league title--Jenny Speirs’ third-place finish at Irvine Regional Park in Orange helped Aliso Niguel win its first league title in girls’ cross-country.
Speirs, who finished in 19:36, was one of five Wolverine runners who finished among the top 10. Aliso Niguel finished with 28 points, Laguna Hills was second with 63 and University was third with 75.
Aliso Niguel’s league victory is the first for the school in any sport since it opened last year.
Senior Mandy Schwercherl of Laguna Hills and sophomore Misha Wilson of University battled until the final 500 meters when Schwercherl pulled away to win in 18:29. Wilson finished in 18:54.
Laguna Hills won the boys’ title with the help of strong finishes by Danny Minx, who finished second in 16:00, and Allan Kremp, who took third in 16:50. University’s Richard Chou finished first in 15:57.
