NORTHRIDGE — Missy Clements had 22 kills to become Cal State Northridge’s all-time leader in a 15-4, 15-13, 15-5 sweep of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in a nonconference women’s volleyball match Saturday night at Matador Gymnasium.
Clements, a 5-foot-11 senior outside hitter from La Habra High, needed 18 kills to break Northridge’s career record of 1,326 set by Kathleen Dixon from 1987-90. After getting 10 kills in the first game, she had eight in the second.
The match was stopped after Clements’ 18th kill, and she received a standing ovation from the crowd of 386 and congratulations from her teammates.
She added four kills in the third game to increase her career total to 1,331 with two matches left in the regular season.
The victory was the third in a row for Northridge (15-8) and the fifth in its last six matches.
The Matadors had a .419 hitting percentage, four of six starters posting marks of .400 or better.
Heather Anderson had 12 kills, 14 digs and three blocks for CSUN and Aimee Stone added nine kills.
