Luke Hudson, an all-Sunset League pitcher from Fountain Valley, has signed to play at Tennessee, Baron baseball Coach Ron LaRuffa said.

Hudson, a right-hander, was 8-1 last season and helped the Barons to the Southern Section Division I title.

Troy’s Jennie Gadd said she has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Mississippi.

Gadd, a 6-foot-3 center, led the Warriors to back-to-back Freeway League championships. She averaged 17.1 points and 10.5 rebounds during the 1993-94 regular season.

She was named the league’s most valuable player last season.

La Quinta catcher Mark Ekleja has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Arizona, Aztec Coach Dave Demarest said.

Eight players from the Southern California Outlaws, a traveling softball team, have signed letters of intent, Coach Cary Crouch said.

Laurie Gillis, a first baseman from Fountain Valley, signed with Northwestern. She hit .310 last season and was a first-team All-Sunset League selection. Los Alamitos outfielder Amanda Peterson also signed with Northwestern.

Los Alamitos catcher Jennifer Slaney signed with Fresno State and teammate Michelle Schneider, a shortstop, signed with Stanford. Marina pitcher Marcy Crouch also signed with Stanford. Other signees included El Dorado’s Nikki Hart (Oregon State), Fountain Valley’s Lynea Backlund (Iowa State), and Marina’s Heather Williams (Michigan State).

Kelli Bruce, a senior catcher for the El Toro softball team, has signed a letter of intent to attend Southwestern Louisiana.

Bruce is a two-time All-South Coast League selection, and in 1992 was named first-team All-Southern Section as a sophomore, when she batted .467. Last season she hit .301 for the Chargers, who won the South Coast League title.

Aliso Niguel announced the hiring of two coaches. Mark York is the new boys’ track and field coach; he was formerly a Loara assistant, and was a head coach at Laguna Hills in 1991-92. He replaces Taz Murtaugh, who left to be an assistant at Saddleback College.

Wayne Westling, formerly the junior varsity golf coach, takes over the varsity. He replaces Bob Richmond, who moved to Colorado.
