Juliano and the Orange Lutheran offense had Cerritos Valley Christian on the run Friday. Working out of a five-receiver formation, the Lancers scored on their first two plays from scrimmage--a 91-yard swing pass from Juliano to Che Holloway and a 39-yard Juliano sweep--and wound up winning, 30-17, to win a share of their first Olympic League title. “The formation was something they had never seen before,” Juliano said. “They didn’t know what to do. I guess we had a man advantage.” Juliano passed for 181 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 72 yards and another score.

* Capistrano Valley, senior. Won his Division I-A heat at the Southern Section preliminaries, finishing three miles in 15 minutes 8 seconds, the fastest time of the day.

* Newport Harbor, senior. Carried six times for 196 yards, scoring on runs of 84 and 73 yards, in the Sailors’ 35-14 victory over El Toro.

* Mater Dei, sophomore. Caught eight passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in the Monarchs’ 42-13 victory over Dana Hills.
