OUTLOOK

After tying La Habra for second place last season, Perez returns a team that is big, quick and experienced. “My seniors have played together the last three years, and they know each other real well,” he said. “We have a lot of team speed. We’ll try to run-and-gun a lot.” Perez expects his backcourt of Higgins and Darke to press and trap frequently, to try to take advantage of a new rule forbidding teams from re-entering the backcourt. But the key to this team is Nadia Hoerner. She led the Freeway League in scoring with 21 points per game. “She can be a dominating player if she does in games what she does in practice,” he said. “You hate to depend on one player so much, but I’d be a fool not to take advantage of her ability.” Perez is also excited about Cooper’s offensive skills. “She’s an excellent shooter, a good three-point shooter, a good defender and has good court sense.” She will play both guard positions. Clark, MacShane and Shannon Hoerner will provide front-court depth.
