OUTLOOK

Harpster, who has never coached varsity girls’ basketball, becomes the Raiders’s second coach in as many seasons. She said this year probably will be a rebuilding one. “I think we’ll be able to hang with a few (teams), but teams like Troy and Fullerton, they’re awesome,” Harpster said. “But if we execute like I know we can, we can give a few teams a scare.” She said speed will e the team’s strength. The rebuilding effort is being focused around Nash, who averaged 18 points and earned first-team all-league honors last year. “If we can have a balanced offense she can do even more,” Harpster said. “She’s a smart player--she knows the game of basketball inside and out.” Harpster expects Saldana to provide decent shooting from 12 to 15 feet. Shelby will take some of the ballhandling pressure off Nash. Though DeOliva is only 5-8, Harpster said she expects her to e an effective rebounder.” She plays big,” Harpster said.
