OUTLOOK

Fair brings an interesting resume to the Indians, having coached professional teams in New Zealand and England before accepting the Fullerton job. Fair also spent time at Pacifica, but resigned in 1986. He is known for being fiery and passionate on the sidelines, but also knows winning, having been a member of the Corona del Mar team that won a 1977 CIF championship. Fair is not predicting such results immediately for Fullerton but he is determined to make the Indians into a playoff contender. “Our goal is to be the most fundamentally sound team out there,” Fair said. “If we are that, the wins will come.” Fair goes on to praise his club’s intelligence and desire; whether they can compensate for Fullerton’s lack of overall height is the big question. Another question is how quickly expected leaders Schatz (9.4 points) and Young (3.0) fit in once the football season ends. But Fair is undaunted. “This is a school and community with tradition,” he said. “I think we can build something special.”
