OUTLOOK

With six underclassmen playing significant minutes, the Vaqueros finished in last place last year. But with a little luck, they could be looking down at everybody this season. Five of those underclassmen are back, including Parrish (7.7 points, 4 rebounds), one of the league’s better all-around players, and Frank (6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds), one of the league’s more versatile players. Toscanani (5.3 points, 5 assists) will be the point guard and Silverman will start at center. “Our strengths are in our guards and our leadership,” Hamamoto said. “The kids are really focused.” Though he’s only a sophomore, Hamamoto is excited about Silverman. “He had a great summer,” Hamamoto said. “We played against a lot of kids from the inner city and he didn’t back down at all.” Hamamoto is somewhat worried that his big people are inexperienced, but he said the situation could be much worse. “We have young height, but I’d rather have young height than young guards.”
