OUTLOOK

Corbitt has plenty of high hopes entering his first season at Valencia. He inherits five starters from a third-place team that advanced to the second round of the Southern Section II-A playoffs. This group looks to be better than last year’s and is a unanimous pick by the rest of the league to finish second. However, Corbitt says the starting positions are not etched in stone. Alexander and Judd were all-league selections last season and join Snavely and Katz as returning seniors. Alexander averaged 11.8 points and Judd averaged 7.5. Lee could break into the starting lineup, as could Stumph and Gamba; Nevares and Hoppe are expected to play a lot. Corbitt says the emphasis this season will be on a strong defense and outside shooting. A deep bench, good inside game and strong underclassmen make the Tigers even stronger. Since he’s unfamiliar with the league, Corbitt is content to call his team the dark horse, but believes it will able to contend with any team in the county.
