OUTLOOK

After winning three consecutive league titles, the Mustangs are in for a rebuilding year from top to bottom. Whitacre left Villa Park a month ago to coach Costa Mesa. At Villa Park he guided the Spartans to consecutive league titles and a 21-4 record last season. Both were firsts for the school. He inherits a team with three returning starters. Koo is a quality player with limitless shooting range and speed. She won’t have to handle the point guard duties this season, which will leave her free to shoot from the perimeter. Brown, an honorable mention selection last year, will direct the offense and be the go-to player down the stretch. Lurmann takes over for Heather Robinson, now at Miami, and brings good offensive moves to the post. Arellano returns after sitting out her sophomore season and is another outside threat. Anderson will probably be the fifth starter, but Howse has been the biggest surprise.
