OUTLOOK

Jakosky said she knows what to expect out of her senior starters, given that Clayton and Schutz were starters the previous two seasons. “We expect our seniors to be solid--they are pretty battle-tested by now,” Jakosky said. Pulido is “a physical player who is not afraid to bang.” But she said if the Sailors are to match last season’s success--they advanced to the State Division III-A semifinals before losing to Brea-Olinda--the five newcomers must make significant contributions. “The key to our season will be the maturation of the sophomores and the freshman,” Jakosky said. “They are taking the place of two key senior leaders--Gina Heads and Genevieve Evarts.” Jakosky expects the Sailors to finish second, behind Woodbridge, but she is focusing beyond league play. “We’re expecting to get deep into (the playoffs),” she said. “We’d be disappointed if we didn’t.”
