OUTLOOK

The strength of Brazell’s team will be her backcourt, where Stevens averaged 15 points last year. But Brazell said Newe will take a lot of scoring pressure off Stevens. “She’s going to surprise a lot of people this year,” Brazell said. “She’s improved so much. We used to be known as a team that couldn’t get the ball to half-court if we were pressed. She forced teams to stop pressing us.” After that, roles are unclear. “Our other three starters depend on who we are playing,” Brazell said. “I don’t think we’ll ever have a solid starting five.” Brazell said Bodholdt is the second-strongest player in the league, behind Angela Burgess, and Kettner is a good shooter. Brazell said she was excited about her team’s improvement, but acknowledged that it might not be enough to earn a playoff spot. “I definitely expect an improvement, but the league’s tougher,” she said. “Our goal is to make the playoffs, and this is the first year we can realistically say that.”
