OUTLOOK

Woodbridge became bigger and better instantly last spring when Burgess transferred from Mater Dei. Halagan, in his third year as Warriors coach, compares Burgess favorably with former Woodbridge standout Adam Keefe, now with the NBA’s Utah Jazz. “Chris is a lot bigger than Adam was as a sophomore and even a little more versatile at this point, especially from the perimeter,” Halagan said. “He’s obviously going to be a very, very good player for us down the road.” Halagan plans on using Burgess from a variety of positions on the floor, not just as a turn-and-shoot post player, to take advantage of Burgess’ outside shooting touch. But it won’t be all Burgess for Woodbridge. Semm and Ripley are third-year varsity players and Halagan expects them to increase their offensive output this season. The Warriors lack experience in the backcourt, but Halagan expects Jenkins, Brown and Stovall to progress quickly. Woodbridge could play as many as 10 or 11 players regularly in its trapping and pressing defensive style.
