OUTLOOK

Mulligan, the league’s winningest coach, will be without Michelle Macintyre, who broke all of Mulligan’s school scoring records. Now, the Tritons compete without any returning seniors, but Mulligan’s concern should be made more palatable by five starters from a junior varsity team that went 19-1, 10-0. The Tritons will be quick, scrappy and deep; the flip side is that they will be young and inexperienced. They should improve greatly as the season progresses, and though Mater Dei is the class of the league, San Clemente is the team to beat for second place. Turnbull (5.4 points, 5.8 rebounds) is one of the best post players the Tritons have had in a traditionally guard-strong program. She has gotten a lot of garbage points in the past with her scrappy play--such as 18 last season against Mater Dei--and she has the footwork to be a force as a go-to player; Ela, a strong outside threat, should provide unusually mature leadership for a freshman.
