SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Some nerve, that Antelope Valley High team.

First, the Antelopes knock out Saugus, the tournament host. Next, they eliminate last season’s tournament champion, La Canada.

Saturday, the Antelopes ran away with the championship game of the Saugus tournament with a 73-61 victory over Thousand Oaks.

“We played as hard as we could and we shot the ball well,” said Antelope Valley Coach Tom Mahan, whose team led by as many as 26 points after taking a 22-7 first-quarter lead.
