GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Aliso Niguel Sets Mark in 52-28 Victory

Aliso Niguel set a school single-game rebounding record with 55 Monday as the Wolverines beat Pacifica, 52-28, in a University girls’ basketball tournament game.

The previous mark was 41. Deana Mitchelson and Brook Hyman combined for 45 of the rebounds, with Mitchelson getting 23 and Hyman grabbing 22.

Mitchelson also finished with a game-high 30 points. Hyman added 11 for Aliso Niguel (2-1). For Pacifica, Erin Kiyomura scored more than half of the Mariners points with 17, making 13 of 16 free throws.

In the Brea-Olinda tournament:

Torrance Bishop Montgomery 65, La Quinta 20--Tashara Carter scored 24 points for Bishop Montgomery.

Troy 49, Westlake Village Westlake 46--Jennie Gadd had 29 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots for Troy (4-0).

Mission Viejo 55, Ontario 48--Kortney Okura scored 22 points and Shelley Higham had seven points and eight assists for Mission Viejo (3-2), which led, 29-19, at the half.

Ocean View 43, Pasadena 33--Becky Fraser led Ocean View (1-2) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Teammate Jennifer Tuiolosega added 11 points and six assists. Ocean View plays Troy on Wednesday.

In the Woodbridge tournament:

Costa Mesa 40, Dana Hills 37--Erin Brown had 10 points to spark Costa Mesa, which led, 27-26, at halftime. Dana Hills had a chance to tie it, but a three-point try missed as time ran out. The Dolphins also struggled at the free-throw line, making three of 15.

Fountain Valley 70, Cerritos Gahr 43--Jennifer Ludwicki scored 27 points for Fountain Valley (3-1), which outscored Gahr, 23-6, in the third quarter to take a 56-29 lead.

Woodbridge 82, Huntington Beach 40--Angela Burgess made eight of 12 shots from the field and finished with 18 points for host Woodbridge (3-0). Woodbridge outscored Huntington Beach, 35-3, in the third quarter to take a 62-26 lead. Erin Stovall had 14 points and 11 steals for Woodbridge.

Estancia 51, San Clemente 38--Cyndi Richards led Estancia (3-0) with 15 points. Teammate Jessica Waltz had 11 and Megan Noland 10. Heather Hollis scored a game-high 16 points for San Clemente (1-3). Estancia plays Woodbridge Wednesday.

In nonleague games:

Laguna Hills 44, Century 33--Laguna Hills (3-0) outscored Century, 16-7, in the second quarter to open a 19-15 halftime lead. Mary Tims had 10 points and Tayibba Haneef nine for the Hawks.

Magnolia 57, Rancho Alamitos 38--Andrea Picchi had 13 points and 17 rebounds and Mary Tuazon added 19 points for visiting Magnolia (3-0). Magnolia led, 38-31, to start the final quarter but pulled away.
