Cardmania Heads Elite Field in Underwood
A field of 10 headed by Cardmania is entered in today’s $100,000-added Vernon O. Underwood Breeders’ Cup Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Cardmania, who has won 16 races and more than $1.4 million in a 69-race career that began in 1988, will be ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and is assigned 120 pounds for the 14th running of the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds and up.
An 8-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding, Cardmania has recovered from a serious leg injury that almost forced him into retirement last February.
Others entered in today’s race are Lost Pan, who will be ridden by Patrick Valenzuela and is assigned 122 pounds; Demaloot Demashoot, Chris Antley, 120; Gundaghia, David Flores, 120; Concept Win, Gary Stevens, 120; Saratoga Gambler, Martin Pedroza, 120; Wekiva Springs, Kent Desormeaux, 118; Minjinsky, Chris McCarron, 116; Polar Route, Corey Black, 116, and Gotta Groove, Laffit Pincay, 116.
