AGOURA HILLS, CALABASAS : Christmas Tree Recycling Urged

Share

The cities of Calabasas and Agoura Hills are urging residents to bring their used Christmas trees to city recycling drop-off centers instead of throwing them away.

The goal is to divert trees from landfills and recycle them into chips that can be used as compost or mulch, said Susan Zulusky, recycling coordinator for Calabasas.

In Calabasas, drop-off centers are at Sperling Nursery, 24460 Calabasas Road; Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, 27850 Agoura Road, and an Alpha Beta supermarket, 22275 Mulholland Highway. The centers will be open from Dec. 27 to Jan. 15.

Drop-off sites in Agoura Hills will be at Whizin’s Mall, 5050 Cornell Road, and Agoura High School, 28545 W. Driver Ave. The centers will be open from Dec. 26 to Jan. 8.

All trees must be free of ornaments, tinsel or stands. Flocked trees and trees sprayed with fire retardant will be accepted.

Last year, Agoura Hills collected 1,600 trees. The collection centers are set up in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.
