BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Chatsworth, Behind Hill, Wins Second Consecutive Tournament

Tariq Hill scored 12 of his 21 points in the second quarter to help Chatsworth High to an 84-65 victory over Walnut in the championship game of the Bonita High boys’ basketball tournament Thursday.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Chatsworth (8-1), which won the North Hollywood tournament last week.

The Chancellors led, 17-14, after one quarter before outscoring Walnut, 31-15, in the second.

Jerome Joseph had 16 points for Chatsworth and tournament most valuable player Eddie Miller added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Hart 54, Santa Paula 52--Mike Posey blocked a three-point attempt by Santa Paula’s Manuel Escamilla with five seconds left, then hit two free throws after being fouled to clinch Hart’s victory in the nonleague game at Valencia High.

The loss was the first of the season for Santa Paula (7-1), which trailed by 13 points in the third quarter before cutting its deficit to 50-49 on Escamilla’s three-point shot with 30 seconds left in the game.

Nick Lewandowski (20 points, 12 rebounds) hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to give Hart a 52-49 lead, setting the stage for Posey’s block.

Posey had 14 points and seven assists for Hart (5-5).

Paraclete 62, St. Bonaventure 46--Steve Dombrowski scored 14 points and Danny Stephens added 11 for host Parcelete in the nonleague game.

Vinny Pagan added eight points and six assists for the Spirits (6-4).

Holy Martyrs 60, Yeshiva--Johnny Panjarjian had 34 points, five assists and five rebounds to lead host Holy Martyrs (3-2, 1-1) in a Liberty League matchup.

The senior hit all 12 of his foul shots in the fourth quarter.

Glendale 76, Charter Oak 71--James Fuller had 17 points, 20 rebounds and five blocks to lead Glendale (6-3) to a double-overtime victory at Charter Oak.

The Dynamiters trailed by nine points with six minutes left in regulation play, then came back to tie the score, 59-59.

Glendale jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first overtime, but Charter Oak hit three three-point shots to force another period.

Chris Farmer also had 17 for Glendale, including five three-pointers in eight attempts.

Zori Rockwell led Charter Oak with 29 points and Shawn Keilty added 20.

GIRLS

Thousand Oaks 46, Millikan 37--Niki LaSala had nine points and Nicole Woodruff added eight to lead Thousand Oaks (5-4) in a Santa Barbara tournament consolation semifinal. The Lancers trailed at halftime, 17-16, in the low-scoring affair in which both teams used a full-court press.
