SEASON AT A GLANCE: Hernandez placed fifth in the Foot Locker national championships Dec. 10 after finishing fourth in the West regional. The runner-up in the State Division I championships, he won the team sweepstakes race of the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College Invitational in October in addition to the Marmonte League and Southern Section Division I championships in November. He had a winning record against all the region’s top performers, including a 2-1 mark against Antonio Arce of Palmdale, a 5-2 record versus Brett Strahan of Hart and a 7-1 advantage over Keith O’Doherty of Thousand Oaks.

THE REST OF THE TEAM:

Antonio Arce, Palmdale Sr., placed seventh in the national championships, won State and Southern Section Division II titles. Jeff Fischer, Thousand Oaks Sr., finished third in the State Division I final as the Lancers won their second consecutive title. John Greene, Agoura Sr., the runner-up in the Southern Section Division II championships, placed third in the State meet. David Lopez, Hoover So., finished eighth in the Southern Section Division I final and 15th in the State final. Kevin Marsden, Thousand Oaks Sr., placed fifth in the Southern Section Division I championships and ninth in the State meet. Keith O’Doherty, Thousand Oaks Sr., the Ventura County champion, finished third in the Southern Section Division I final and sixth in the State meet. Javier Ramirez, Nordhoff Sr., the Southern Section Division III champion, placed second in the State final to propel the Rangers to their second consecutive title. Francisco Sandoval, Channel Islands Sr., finished fifth in the Ventura County championships. Brett Strahan, Hart Sr., placed fifth in the West regional and sixth in the Southern Section Division I championships.
