HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hart’s Fourth-Quarter Rally Falls Short, 58-52

The Hart High boys’ basketball team trimmed a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to two against Burbank midway through the final period, but the host Bulldogs pulled away in the final minutes Thursday to win the Foothill League game, 58-52.

Hart opened the fourth quarter with a 15-4 run to close to within two points before Burbank’s Matt Baker made a key three-point shot to make it 50-45 with 3 minutes 47 seconds to play.

Baker scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter for Burbank (9-6, 3-0 in league play). Don Allado added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Mike Posey scored 12 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for Hart (8-9, 1-2).

Canyon 66, Saugus 59--Senior guard Greg Minor scored a school-record 45 points for the second time this season to lead Canyon (10-6, 3-1) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Minor was 20 of 20 from the free-throw line, including 10 of 10 in the fourth quarter. He scored 45 points against Glendale in December.

Oakwood 53, Buckley 49--Sharif Crawford scored 28 points for the Gorillas (3-7, 2-4) in a Liberty League game at Oakwood.

Center Rodney Mogen scored 22 points for Buckley (4-8, 3-1).

Holy Martyrs 64, Providence 43--Johnny Panjarjian and Missak Tohikian each scored 14 points to for the Armens (7-3, 3-0) in a Liberty League game.

Westside Alternative 69, Sherman Oaks CES 64--Louis Talley scored 32 points and had 10 rebounds for Westside Alternative (6-0, 3-0) in a Magnet Conference game.

Highland Hall 59, LeLycee 55--Sophomore guard Taman VanScoy hit two free throws in the final seconds of the second overtime for Highland Hall (2-7, 2-4) in a Westside League game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Oak Park 52, St. Bonaventure 46--Natalie Davis had 16 points and eight steals for Oak Park (10-5) in a Tri-Valley League opener.

Alexa Valavanis added 13 points and six of Oak Park’s 22 steals.

Village Christian 71, Marshall Fundamental 19--Lindy James scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds, and Trisha Palmquist added 13 points and had 10 rebounds for the Crusaders (12-4, 1-0) in an Alpha League game.

Newbury Park 59, Thousand Oaks 50--Kara McKeown scored 26 points and had 16 rebounds, and Julie Wastell scored 18 points to for the Panthers (16-1, 6-0) in a Marmonte League victory.

Buena 78, Hueneme 42--Eboni Conley had 20 points, seven steals and six assists for Buena (7-2, 3-0) in a Channel League game.

Channel Islands 51, Camarillo 30--Tina Portillo scored 16 points and Eleanor Ecoffey added 15 for Channel Islands (9-8, 3-2) in a Marmonte League game.
