BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Highland Pair Spark 57-47 Upset

Jamal Dedeaux and John Burrell each scored 14 points to lead Highland to a 57-47 Golden League upset of Antelope Valley, ranked fifth in the area by The Times, at Lancaster on Friday night.

Sean Scott added in 10 for the Bulldogs (11-4, 1-1 in league play).

Le’tre Kelly scored 17 points and Tony Walker had 14 for the Antelopes (12-3, 2-1).

Harvard-Westlake 76, St. Francis 54--Jason Collins had 24 points and 15 rebounds and Jarron Collins added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the host Wolverines (17-1) in a Mission League game.

Ben Robbins added 13 points and eight assists for Harvard.

Thousand Oaks 81, Newbury Park 76--Jeremiah Nesbitt had 29 points and 12 rebounds as the Lancers won a Marmonte League game in overtime.

Newbury Park’s Adam Reinwasser scored 28 points.

Palmdale 70, Ridgecrest Burroughs 63--The host Falcons made 64% of their field goals in the second half and made their free throws down the stretch to hold off Ridgecrest Burroughs (9-8, 0-3) in a Golden League game.

Palmdale (12-5, 3-0) was led by Mike Hamelin with 18 points and six steals, Shad Martin with 15 points and six rebounds and Chris Bell with 12 points and seven assists.

Chatsworth 71, San Fernando 60--Chatsworth’s Jerome Joseph had 22 points and six rebounds and Eddie Miller added 22 points and seven rebounds for the Chancellors (10-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener.

Birmingham 45, Cleveland 34--Guard Jamal Marks scored 12 points to spark the Braves in the Northwest Valley opener at Birmingham.

The Braves (7-6) led most of the way and outscored Cleveland, 20-12, in the fourth quarter.

Taft 81, El Camino Real 57--Alton Arrington scored 12 of his 19 points in the second half for host Taft (7-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference opener.

Sylmar 38, Reseda 37--Hector Ibarra stole the ball in front of his basket and drove 10 feet for the game-winning layup with eight seconds remaining in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener at Reseda.

Joe Guerra led Sylmar (2-10) with 13 points and Ibarra added 11. Reseda is 4-10.

Grant 70, Poly 52--Ronald Patterson scored 23 of his 35 points in the second half to lead host Grant (9-5) in a Valley Pac-8 opener. Polo Gonzalez had 19 for Poly.

Monroe 63, Van Nuys 51--Shaka Stiner had 24 points to lead host Monroe--which trailed, 27-22, at the half--in a Valley Pac-8 game.

Kris Hurdle had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Van Nuys (6-7).

Montclair Prep 84, Lone Pine 64--Reed Berglund scored 24 points and Akil Anderson had 23 points and 11 assists for the visiting Mounties (16-3) in a nonleague game. Scott Stark added 20 points.

La Canada 76, South Pasadena 44--Guard Kevin Foley scored 14 points and three other players finished in double figures as La Canada (11-7, 3-0) coasted to its 41st consecutive Rio Hondo League home victory since 1986.

La Salle 68, Bell-Jeff 60--Bell-Jeff was outscored, 25-11, in the fourth quarter of a Santa Fe League game at La Salle.

Rueben Douglas scored 17 points for Bell-Jeff (9-8, 3-2) and Elahu Cobb added 11 points.

Pasadena 65, Glendale 46--Joe Kurdoglanyan scored 15 points and Steve Avetyan added 11 for host Glendale (9-8, 0-3) in a Pacific League game.

Oxnard 59, Ventura 50--Greg Jacobs scored 14 of his 15 points in the second half for the Yellowjackets (6-7, 2-2) in a Channel League game at Ventura.

Donte Lincoln led Ventura (4-9, 2-3) with 19 points.

Loyola 73, Crespi 59--Brett Rice scored 15 points for Loyola in a Mission League game at Crespi.

Gianandrea Marcaccini led Crespi (7-9, 0-4) with 13 points.

Royal 72, Simi Valley 68--Scott Hambly scored 17 points for host Royal in a Marmonte League game.

Erik Plummer scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter for Simi Valley.

Providence 71, Oakwood 61--Pat Nazari scored 23 points for the host Pioneers (7-6, 3-2) in a Liberty League game. It was Coach Paul Sutton’s 100th victory at Providence.

Santa Clara 61, Moorpark 32--The Saints outscored the Raiders, 21-3, in the fourth quarter of the Frontier League game at Santa Clara. Lukmon Dotson led the Saints (10-6, 2-0) with 15 points.

San Marcos 54, Hueneme 52--Aaron Cropper scored 18 for Hueneme in a Channel League game at San Marcos.

Santa Barbara 76, Rio Mesa 39--Rob Wolf had 10 points and Cory Wilson added nine for Rio Mesa (2-11, 0-5) in a Channel League blowout at Oxnard.

MEN

The Master’s 93, Bethany 44--James Mosley had 18 points and seven rebounds and Mike Penberthy added 16 points and 11 assists for host Master’s in the nonconference game.

Penberthy hit five of seven shots from the field, including four of six from three-point range.

Leo Gorauskas added 12 points and six rebounds for Master’s (14-4).
