In other Sunset League games:

Huntington Beach 50, Edison 48 (OT)--Zack Montgomery, who had 11 points, made the game winning basket with two seconds left in overtime for the Oilers (9-9, 2-2).

Marina 56, Esperanza 52--Steve Bolton scored 15 points for Marina (3-15, 1-3).

In the Freeway League:

Sonora 66, Fullerton 62--For those who think the Freeway League consists of Sonora High and six others, think again.

Yes, the Raiders are 17-2, 4-0 in league and they stretched their current winning streak to 15 games with a 66-62 victory over Fullerton (12-7, 3-1). But make no mistake, Wednesday’s game at Fullerton was nowhere near the runaway that Sonora has grown accustomed to this year.

Sonora’s 23-16 third-quarter lead ultimately provided the Raiders with enough cushion to hold on for the victory. But Fullerton had whittled an eight-point, fourth-quarter deficit down to one point, 63-63, with 18 seconds left. And, after two Sergio Hernandez free throws, Fullerton came within a missed three-pointer of forcing overtime and perhaps stealing their biggest victory of the season.

The Raiders were led by Craig Clark, who scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half despite four fouls. The county’s second-best rebounder was held to nine, but Fullerton was so intent on minimizing Clark they forgot to check Josh Lien, who had 14 rebounds and 10 points.

Seth La Tour led Fullerton with 17 points.

Fullerton Coach Brent Fair had decided one way to attack Sonora was to try and disrupt their guards. So he made a lineup change, starting Steve Lyons ahead of Chris Young.

“He’s a little more physical than Chris,” said Fair, who added that he also threw in a variety of zone defenses to stop the bigger stronger Raiders.

It worked for a half. Fullerton kept the game at waltz tempo, as it tried to beat Sonora from outside. The Raiders could only take a 25-24 halftime lead.
