Following two heartbreaking one-point losses to Grand Canyon and the Master’s College, the Cal State Los Angeles men’s basketball team upset San Bernardino, 75-58, Thursday night.

Sean Hopson had a career-high in points (18) and rebounds (10) to lead Cal State Los Angeles (11-5, 1-1). Hopson was playing only his second game since breaking his jaw one month ago against Cal State Stanislaus.

The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 80% from the free-throw line, making 16 of 20 shots.

The Coyotes, however, put up a fight. Led by junior guard Lou Williams, San Bernardino attempted 19 shots from three-point range. Tony Sanders, however, made the Coyotes’ only three-point shot.

Williams, a transfer from the University of Oklahoma, had 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. He accounted for 36% of his team’s points.

Cal State Los Angeles is ranked sixth regionally in Division II, but has dropped out the national rankings after last week’s pair of disappointing losses.
