PREP WRESTLING ROUNDUP : Wehrmann, Stouder Lead Mission Viejo Past Mater Dei
Mission Viejo got pins from Chris Wehrmann and Dan Stouder as the Diablos beat Mater Dei, 38-22, in a South Coast League wrestling match Thursday at Mission Viejo.
Wehrmann won the 154-pound division with a pin of Tim Curran in 1:27 and Stouder pinned Mike Souza in 4:50 at 137 pounds. Mission Viejo, ranked 10th in Orange County, is 22-7, 4-0.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 61, Sonora 12--The Lancers (10-5, 3-1) were led by freshman Lawrence Smith, who defeated Mike Sanchez, 17-7, at 105 pounds. Robbie Inman pinned Brian Pivovarott in 45 seconds at 154 pounds.
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 71, Bolsa Grande 6--Geoff Marquez pinned Anthony McBride in nine seconds for host Pacifica (1-2 in league), which won seven matches by forfeit.
In the Golden West League:
Santa Ana 54, Westminster 16--Carlos Joaquine pinned Steve Kriha in 5 minutes, 50 seconds at 142 pounds for fifth-ranked host Santa Ana (19-2, 3-0).
In the Orange League:
Western 60, Savanna 18--Wrestling his second varsity match at 121 pounds, Eddie Rumps pinned Jeremy Gayther in 1:43 for Western (13-3, 4-0), which meets fourth-ranked Anaheim for the league title next Thursday.
In the Sea View League:
Irvine 59, Santa Margarita 13--Host Irvine (11-1, 3-0), ranked third in Orange County, got six pins and a technical fall.
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos 40, Fountain Valley 17--Evan Younger and Rico Santiago posted victories for ninth-ranked Los Alamitos (10-0, 4-0), which meets No. 7 Esperanza for the league title next Thursday.
