Harry Toscano had 11 one-putt greens and Bob Murphy went wading for a par Friday en route to five-under-par 67s that shared the lead in the first round of the Senior PGA Tour’s IntelliNet Challenge.

Six players were tied at two shots behind the leaders.

Toscano, the first alternate who got a spot in the field when Al Geiberger withdrew last week, saved par on the first hole with a five-foot putt, then birdied five of his next six holes.

Murphy’s round was less conventional.

He had six birdies, but credited shots that saved pars on three holes for his success. Two came on chips to close range after missing greens on par-three holes, and the other came on the par-five sixth hole, when he hit into the water.

“The ball was on some rocks and I could get a club on it,” Murphy said. “I pulled off my shoes, rolled up my pants, crawled into the water and was able to hook it around a tree.”
