COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Complete Baseball Sweep in Tucson

Ted Silva won his third consecutive game, pitching a seven-hitter, as visiting Cal State Fullerton beat Arizona, 6-1, in a nonconference baseball game Sunday in Tucson.
Silva, a junior right-hander, had 11 strikeouts and walked one. Mark Kotsay had four hits and drove in a run and Brian Loyd had three hits, including a triple, and drove in two for the Titans (7-1), who swept the three-game series.
In another nonconference game:
USC 9, Long Beach State 7--Jason Minici, from Rancho Santiago College and Irvine High, had a home run for host Long Beach (3-3). USC (7-2) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to open a 9-1 lead. Long Beach rallied for six in the seventh but was shut out in the eighth and ninth.
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
UC Irvine 71, San Jose State 61--Jinelle Williams scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds for host UC Irvine (12-8, 9-4). The 12 victories are the most for Irvine since the Anteaters won 14 in 1986-87. Williams, from Brea Olinda High, made eight of 11 from the field and 11 of 16 free throws.
Cal State Fullerton 84, Hawaii 68--Koko Lahanas scored 30 points and Shayla Bradshaw had 23 for host Cal State Fullerton (10-10, 7-6). The Titans scored 42 points in each half and Hawaii scored 34 in each half.
Nevada 69, Long Beach State 68--Akia Hardy’s 12-foot jumper went off the rim as time ran out for host Long Beach State (11-10, 8-5). Nevada (6-14, 3-9) ended its 15-game conference losing streak.
