HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Mission Viejo Upends No. 5 Crescenta Valley

Mike Yancey scored 27 points, including seven three-point baskets, to lead Mission Viejo to a 77-74 overtime upset of No. 5 Crescenta Valley Friday night in a Southern Section Division II-AA second-round basketball game at Mission Viejo.

Mission Viejo improved to 16-10; Crescenta Valley is 25-2.

No. 1 Santa Ana Mater Dei 86, Cerritos 36--Schea Cotton had 28 points and 11 rebounds as Mater Dei (29-1) defeated Cerritos (12-15) in a Southern Section I-A second-round game at Mater Dei.

No. 3 Inglewood 64, Villa Park 47--Paul Pierce scored 12 points in the last quarter to rally the Sentinels (24-3) to a Southern Section II-AA first-round victory over Villa Park (13-12) at Inglewood.

No. 6 Westchester 78, Jordan 59--Ben Sanders scored 13 of his 20 points in the second half and guard Danny Walker had 19 points in the game to lead the Comets (24-6) to a City 4-A first-round victory at Westchester. A jump shot by Clem Breedlove, who had a game-high 23 points, brought Jordan (19-6) to within 41-38 late in the third quarter but the Bulldogs got no closer.

No. 7 Fairfax 57, Kennedy 55--Duane Davis scored eight of the Lions’ 11 overtime points in a City 4-A first-round victory in double overtime at Fairfax. Davis scored 18 points to lead Fairfax (21-5) over Kennedy (16-7).

No. 9 Fremont 70, Hamilton 55--Leon Jones scored 19 points and Antonio Hines had 18 to lead the Pathfinders (26-3) to a City 4-A first-round victory over Hamilton (15-8) at Fremont.

No. 10 Artesia 84, Anaheim Savanna 44--Kevin Daley scored 18 points and had eight rebounds to lead the Pioneers (23-3) to a Southern Section III-AA second-round victory over Savanna (16-11) at Artesia.

No. 11 La Puente Nogales 74, Perris 61--Guard Shomario Richard scored 27 points in the second half to lead the Nobles (24-3) back from an 11-point halftime deficit in a Southern Section I-A second-round victory over Perris (16-12) at Nogales. Richard scored 37 points and had seven assists in the game.

No. 12 Harvard-Westlake 62, La Quinta 45--Jason and Jarron Collins, 6-foot-10 sophomore twins, led the Wolverines (24-3) with 26 and 10 points, respectively, in a Southern Section III-A second-round victory over La Quinta (15-12) at Harvard-Westlake.

No. 13 Crenshaw 72, North Hollywood 65--Robert Parker scored 14 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, as two-time defending City 4-A champion Crenshaw (21-5) defeated North Hollywood (14-10) in a first-round game at Crenshaw. Stanford-bound Arthur Lee III had a game-high 31 points, including 18 of North Hollywood’s 20 fourth-quarter points.

No. 14 Glendora 50, Corona Centennial 38--Josh Giles scored 16 points to lead the Tartans (25-3) to a Southern Section I-A second-round victory over Centennial (18-9) at Glendora.

No. 17 Pasadena 75, Palm Springs 50--Gordon Scott scored 28 points to lead the Bulldogs (21-5) to a Southern Section II-AA, second-round victory over Palm Springs (18-8) at Pasadena.

No. 20 Washington 88, Manual Arts 71--Patrick Blake scored 24 points and Charles Stone had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Generals (20-6) to a City 4-A first-round victory over Manual Arts (12-12) at Washington.
