COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CLU Women Clinch Share of SCIAC Title

Kelli MaCaskill scored 21 points and Nicole Albert had 12 points, 12 assists and seven steals as host Cal Lutheran defeated Occidental, 97-60, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Friday night.

Cal Lutheran (22-1, 10-0 in conference play) rebounded from Tuesday’s 98-96 overtime loss to Chapman to clinch at least a share of its their first SCIAC title.

The Regals can clinch the title outright with a victory over visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Tuesday.

Canyons 90, Valley 68--Kyetra Brown had 23 points and 11 assists as the host Cougars (28-5, 10-0) won their 21st consecutive Western State Conference game and second consecutive Southern Division title.

Ventura 61, Santa Barbara 49--Tori Anderson had 24 points and seven steals for visiting Ventura (25-2, 9-1) in its WSC North Division finale.

The Master’s 75, Christian Heritage 48--Jodi Aqueda had 23 points, 12 rebounds and 11 steals for host Master’s in the NAIA Far West Region Independents game.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

The Master’s 73, Holy Names 65--James Mosley had 23 points as the visiting Mustangs (24-4) posted their 11th consecutive victory in the NAIA Far West Region Independents game.

BASEBALL

Ventura 10, Cal Lutheran JV 7--Tim Farris had four hits and three RBIs for host Ventura, which took advantage of seven Cal Lutheran errors in a nonconference game.

Valley 9, Pasadena City 8--A sacrifice fly by Chris Butler scored Chris Stell with the winning run in the top of the 11th of the nonconference game at Pasadena.

SOFTBALL

Cal Lutheran 14-11, Redlands 3-0--The Regals (4-2) had 29 hits in sweeping the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener at Redlands.

Heidi Stevens had five hits, including a home run and a double, for Cal Lutheran (4-2).

Chaffey 5, Canyons 2--The host Cougars (2-3) committed five errors in a nonconference game at Canyons.
