GIRLS’ SOCCER PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Gerardo Leads Simi Valley Past St. Lucy’s, 3-1

Monica Gerardo scored her 37th and 38th goals and host Simi Valley, the No. 3-ranked team in Southern Section Division I, beat St. Lucy’s, 3-1, in a first-round playoff match.

Gerardo’s goals and one by the Alison Reinhardt came in the second half as Simi Valley (21-4-2), the No. 3-seeded team in Division I, overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Erin Janke made four saves for Simi Valley, which plays Irvine (16-3-6) on Thursday.

DIVISION I

Mater Dei 2, Westlake 1--Westlake (17-3-2) lost to the Monarchs (14-6-5) on penalty kicks after 120 minutes of full-field play.

DIVISION II

Buena 2, Redondo 0--Melanie Montoya scored in the 37th minute and Monica Almaraz added her 22nd goal in the 66th minute as the top-seeded Bulldogs (25-2-2), who did not allow a shot on goal, beat the visiting Seahawks (8-7-6).

South Pasadena 2, Notre Dame 1--Stephanie Nese scored with two minutes remaining in overtime as the Tigers beat the visiting Knights (18-6).

DIVISION III

Quartz Hill 2, Hart 1--Yvonne Ayala scored two goals and Veronica Rethimade made 20 saves as the Golden League champion Rebels (15-2-2) beat the visiting Indians (13-5-4).

Canyon 2, Ramona 0--Karen Hammonds and Mandy Kearns scored for the Cowboys (12-7-2), who defeated the Ivy League champion Rams (14-3-5) at Ramona.

DIVISION IV

La Reina 6, Righetti 1--Aimee Thompson and Katie Nelson each scored two goals for the host Regents (19-2-1), the second-seeded team in the division.

Moorpark 7, Mary Star 0--Elizabeth Christiansen, Jenny Cooney and Debbie Forfar each scored two goals for the Musketeers (10-7-3).
