Writers, Storytellers Just Part of Busy Week : Two book appraisal experts will be available tonight while a seminar on finding an agent is planned for Saturday.

The calendar is jammed this week with literary events including an agent seminar, fiction workshop, cowboy poetry and book appraisals.

Here’s what Barnes & Noble is serving up at 4360 E. Main St. in Ventura:

Tonight between 7 and 9: Bring your older books, first editions and children’s books to appraisal experts Diane Neveu and Sol Grossman, who will try to determine their value.

Saturday at 2 p.m., Virginia Kron will tell children (7 to 10) the magical tale of a boy named Emery and his quest for the crystal harp.

Sunday at 1 p.m., Charles Slaughter, who spent a year in Argentina interviewing people about the brutal military regime that ruled during the 1970s, will sign his novel “The Dirty War,” based on those events.

Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., a group of local poets will gather to read love poems at the monthly Poetry Night, which also features open mike time for anyone who wants to share work.

Mysteries to Die For, 2940 Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks will host two authors this week. Linda Robinson will discuss her historical novel set in ancient Egypt, “Murder at the God’s Gate,” today at 1 p.m. Jan Burke will sign her new mystery “Dear Irene” at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Len Cabral, the acclaimed storyteller, who performed at President Clinton’s inauguration, will entertain at a concert for adults at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Performance Studio, 34 N. Palm St., Ventura. Cabral’s appearance is sponsored in part by the city of Ventura Office of Cultural Affairs and Adventures for Kids Bookstore. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Two words calculated to energize any writer with an unpublished manuscript are literary agent. Toni Lopopolo, former New York editor and now a California literary agent, will conduct a seminar on “How to Find an Agent” from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Learning Tree University’s Thousand Oaks campus. Ana Castillo, author of the novels “Massacre of the Dreamers” and “So Far From God” will present a writers’ workshop focusing on the historical importance of women’s literature and, in particular, the role of Chicana feminists in current publishing. There is no charge for the seminar, scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Ventura College cafeteria, 4667 Telegraph Road. Castillo will also read from her new book, “My Father was a Toltec,” at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Ventura Bookstore, 522 E. Main St. Call 643-4069.

Gary Robertson and J.P. Gorham are the featured poets at the Cowboy Poetry Festival, scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Stagecoach Inn Museum, 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. The $2 cost ($1 for seniors) includes a tour of the museum complex. Call 498-9441.
