Share

Crespi High football Coach Tim Lins is among the applicants for the vacant head-coaching position at Thousand Oaks High.

Lins has been at Crespi for 12 years, the last six as head coach.

Thousand Oaks has been without a coach since last month when Bob Richards was relieved of his duties by school officials.

Basketball

Jason Collins of Harvard-Westlake led the state in field-goal percentage and Matt Johansen of Highland Hall led in rebounding, according to the California Interscholastic Federation’s final regular-season boys’ statistics.

Collins made 196 of 263 shots for a .745 percentage, while Johansen averaged 16.8 rebounds.

Canyon’s Greg Minor was sixth in scoring (28.0); Simi Valley’s Anthony Tauriello second in assists (9.8), and La Canada’s Charlie Petit third in three-point baskets (3.8).

Crescenta Valley’s Amirah Leonard led the girls in three-point baskets (97) and three-pointers per game (3.6). Teammate Michelle Greco was second in field-goal percentage (.645).

North Hollywood’s Anna Celaya finished sixth in scoring with a 25.2 average, while Fillmore’s Christie Rosenblad’s assist average of 6.6 was sixth.

Softball

Buena High catcher Kim Herman, a two-time All-Ventura County selection, will sign a letter of intent with Oregon State, according to her father, Mike Herman.

Herman also visited Marshall and Cal State Sacramento, and turned down an offer to visit Toledo. Herman will sign during the NCAA spring signing period in April.

Herman, who has started for the Bulldogs since her freshman year, batted .397 with three home runs and 17 runs batted in last season.

She set a Channel League record during her sophomore year with 27 RBIs, winning the league’s most-valuable player award that season.

Cycling

Thurlow Rogers of Van Nuys and the Nutra Fig Racing Team finished second in the Dinuba Criterium Race.

Teammate John Wordin was sixth.

Taft High’s Dave Klinger finished third in the Pine Flat road race.

Soccer

Natalie Dorr, a forward/defender on the Ventura High girls’ team, has signed a letter of intent with the University of the Pacific.

Dorr helped the Cougars reach the Southern Section Division II quarterfinals and is also a member of the Walnut Valley Wild Things club team.

Volleyball

Carrie Kapfenberg of San Jose Leland High, Crystal Newquist of Bakersfield Highland and Santa Barbara San Marcos teammates Summer Billings and Holli Hansen have each signed letters of intent with Cal State Northridge.

Kapfenberg, a 6-foot outside hitter, was an All-Central Coast Section selection and 5-11 middle blocker Newquist was a second-team All-Kern County pick.

Billings, a 5-11 middle blocker, and Hansen, a 6-0 outside hitter, were All-Channel League selections. Billings was also named to the All-Southern Section Division I second team.

All four recruits could get plenty of playing time as freshmen because sophomore Rene Goth will be the only returning starter from last year’s Northridge team that posted a 23-8 record and won the National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
