Led by talented goalkeeper Angel Martinez, defender Armando Morales and scorer Romeo Cordoba, Garfield High qualified for the City Section soccer finals with an impressive 2-0 win over Manual Arts in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Garfield played Banning for the City Section finals Saturday. (See Sports, Section C for results.)
Cordoba provided all the offense Garfield would need, scoring at the 25th and 50th minutes of the game.
The Bulldogs dominated midfield play, allowing Manual Arts only one decent scoring threat, which was stopped by Bulldog defender Armando Morales.
Garfield goalie Angel Martinez recorded his third shutout in four playoff games.
In the other semifinal game, Banning shut out Reseda, 1-0.
