Facts and Figures: Despite only five seniors--and only one who has played much at the varsity level--on its roster, Laguna Hills is favored to replace departed Trabuco Hills as champion even though Tereschuk, now in his sixth season, contends “the league is more balanced this year than any year since I’ve been here.” Laguna Hills is the only team with a ninth-grader--infielder Cesar Reyes--on its roster. “The last one we played was Brett Nista,” Tereschuk said. “There aren’t many of those around, but I think this kid’s pretty good.” . . . Aliso Niguel, in its varsity season, has four switch-hitters on its roster.

Highlights: Trabuco Hills won the league by five games, with Estancia and Century tied for second. The Mustangs’ Ryan Kelley (10-3, 1.09 ERA) was voted player of the year. All three teams were eliminated in the first round of the Division III playoffs. . . . Brett Nista (UCLA) set the county career record in hits with 153. His .488 average was 11th in the county. . . . Laguna Beach’s Ryan Sauers threw a no-hitter against Kennedy.
