Royal’s Rainer Denied Waiver Pending Outcome of Hearing

Share

The Southern Section has denied the hardship waiver request of Royal High sophomore pitcher Mike Rainer, pending a hearing Mar. 22, Royal Athletic Director Terry Dobbins said.

Rainer has been in the center of alleged undue-influence violations by Simi Valley Coach Mike Scyphers. Southern Section Commissioner Dean Crowley said Tuesday he was awaiting a report from Simi Valley Principal Kathryn Scroggin before he could rule on the alleged violations.

Ray Rainer, Mike’s father, alleged that Scyphers convinced his son to enroll at Simi Valley on the night before school started last fall. Rainer transferred to Royal in December and sought varsity eligibility via a hardship waiver last month.
