Donations Sought for Flood Victims

Share

The American Red Cross is asking for donations from the public to help pay for disaster relief for flood and storm victims in San Luis Obispo County.

The Red Cross said it spent about $4.5 million in assistance during floods earlier this winter and has raised only $2.9 million in the meantime.

So far, two volunteer teams have left the organization’s San Fernando Valley headquarters for San Luis Obispo County to provide emergency supplies to flood victims.

The small, picturesque town of Cambria, north of San Luis Obispo, was especially hard hit by the weekend’s heavy rains.

Emergency crews rushed to get potable water and emergency medical supplies into Cambria, after the town was cut off by mud, fallen trees, a bridge collapse and waist-high water.

About 70 businesses have been flooded in Cambria, where eight to 10 inches of water fell in less than 24 hours.

The organization asks that donations be sent to either a local chapter or to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 57930, Los Angeles, 90057.
