COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cypress Rallies for 10 Runs to Beat Saddleback, 15-12

Cypress scored 10 runs in the final two innings, including seven in the ninth, to beat Saddleback, 15-12, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Monday in Mission Viejo.

Jeff Pickler had a three-run homer in the eighth inning to cut the Saddleback lead to 11-8. He then broke a 12-12 tie with a two-run double off the wall in the ninth for Cypress, the defending State and conference champion.

Cypress started the ninth down, 12-8, but got within one when Corey Dean-Yeager hit a three-run home run. Augie Ojeda’s single later tied it, 12-12.

Ojeda had four hits and Brooks Morris had a home run for Cypress (19-2, 6-0), which holds a two-game lead over Riverside after the first of four rounds of conference play.

Pat Antrim hit his fourth home run and Sam Voita had two doubles for Saddleback (9-9, 2-4), which led, 8-1, after three innings.

In other conference games:

Orange Coast 8, Fullerton 6--Visiting Orange Coast (11-11, 3-3) had its first six batters reach base and score. Todd Kehrli hit a grand slam in the first inning and added another home run in the third.

Matt Wood replaced Fullerton starter Brian Tokarse (3-2) in the first and had nine strikeouts in nine innings of relief.

Jerry Weitzman had a double and Matt Simpson added a triple for the Hornets (15-5, 2-4).

Riverside 13, Golden West 9--Host Golden West (8-13, 2-4) led, 7-2, after three innings but couldn’t hold on. Riverside (12-6-1, 4-2) scored five runs in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead. Luke Fox had a two-run single in the second and a two-run double in the third for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference golf:

Saddleback 380, Cypress 390, Cuyamaca 394, Orange Coast 404--Mike Gartner shot two-over 74 and Matt Witham had 75 for Saddleback at Tijeras Creek.
