Facts and Figures: The race could come down to two of the three co-defending champions, Western and Magnolia. Western returns all-league first-team selections Stacy and Kelly Humphries and sophomore Adrienne Ratajczak. Magnolia counters with the league’s MVP, Shannon Carlson, and senior pitcher Jennifer Cloyd. . . . Brea Olinda’s Caperton believes her team has a shot at the league championship. The Wildcats return seven players, but could be hurt by the six newcomers who have no varsity experience. . . Valencia could see postseason play as the Tigers are returning sophomore pitcher/outfielder Allison Jacobs.

Highlights: All of the three playoff teams lost in the first round of the playoffs. Magnolia fell to Long Beach Millikan, 6-0; Savanna lost to eventual champion Fullerton, 1-0, and Western lost, 5-1, to Lakewood St. Joseph. . . . Brea Olinda sophomore shortstop Gretchen Thompson was the league’s top hitter (.441, 20 runs), earning first-team all-league honors. Valencia freshman Allison Jacobs hit .342. to earn second-team honors.
