PREP ROUNDUP : Freshman Keys Foothill Tennis Victory Over Diablos

Freshman Joost Hol defeated Mission Viejo’s No. 1 singles player to lead Foothill in a 10-8 victory Friday in a nonleague boys’ tennis match.

After defeating Eduardo Kohlberg, 6-4, Hol went on to sweep his No. 3 single matches, 6-0, 6-0. Foothill is 4-1.

In other nonleague tennis:

Corona del Mar 13, San Clemente 5--John Cappello remained undefeated this season for Corona del Mar (5-1), 6-0, 6-2, 6-2.

Mater Dei 11, Huntington Beach 7--Paul Kerwin swept at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Mater Dei (2-3).

Santa Margarita 11, Trabuco Hills 7--Trailing, 4-2, after the first round, James Young and Dan Deen swept their doubles matches, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4, to put visiting Santa Margarita (4-2) on top to stay.

In nonleague softball:

Mater Dei 8, Calvary Chapel 2--Robin Walker went two for four with three runs batted in and two runs scored and Kelsey Kollen had two hits and two stolen bases for Mater Dei (5-1).

Newport Harbor 3, Laguna Beach 0--Molli Mullin survived her wildness (seven walks) and helped her cause with a two-run single in the third inning for host Newport Harbor (2-3-1). Mullin struck out seven.

Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 2, Whittier Christian 0--Pitcher Joey Miller struck out nine and gave up only two hits in seven innings in the loss for Whittier Christian (1-4).

Valencia 12, Rancho Alamitos 1--Allison Jacobs pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts for host Valencia (3-4).

In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:

La Quinta 3, Rancho Alamitos 1--Trung Kuu had 10 kills to lead La Quinta (4-1, 2-0), 15-5, 15-1, 12-15, 15-8.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Laguna Hills 3, Clovis West 2--Chad Ronka had 16 kills, Max Weiss 15 and Jon Marshall 12 for Laguna Hills (4-1), which won 15-11, 15-0, 11-15, 11-15, 15-5.
