Woodbridge’s Krissy Duperron, bandage on her shoulder and State championship medal around her neck, was finally ready for a long rest.

No more pushing or shoving and, definitely, no more free falls. She been through all that in helping the Warriors to a 55-40 victory over Sacramento El Camino in the Division II championship game Friday. Now it was time for a break.

“I’ve sort of got used to the falling,” said Duperron, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward.

She was slammed to the court twice Friday at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. Once in the first half, with the Warriors struggling to stay close. The second came moments after the final buzzer, when she was wrestled to the ground by teammates.

Both hurt, but one a little less.

“At that point, I wasn’t feeling any pain,” Duperron said. “I suppose it’ll hurt tomorrow.”

Duperron has been playing with one arm the last two games after suffering a partial separated shoulder against Pasadena Muir in the Southern California Regional semifinals.

She returned to play that night and played again, in pain, two days later against Brea Olinda. Friday came a second knockdown and more pain.

Duperron was sent flying with 3 minutes 16 seconds left in the first quarter. The Warriors, who needed her inside play, trailed, 7-4, at the time.

“When she went down, I said, ‘That’s it, her season’s over,’ ” Coach Eric Bangs said.

Duperron got a second opinion--hers.

“I said, ‘Fix me up, I’m going back in,’ ” she said.

Duperron returned with 58 seconds left in the quarter and was a factor from then on.

Her numbers weren’t flashy, just solid. Duperron cleared room inside and finished with a team-high 10 rebounds. The Warriors had a 41-28 rebounding edge.

“Coach told us we had to get the rebounds to stop their fast break,” Duperron said. “We couldn’t let them get out and run.”

El Camino, which had scored 70 or more points 19 times, was held under 50 for the first time this season.

But Duperron didn’t limit herself to dirty work. She got a few beams of limelight as well. She scored only six points, but four were key.

El Camino closed to with six, 36-30, early in the fourth quarter. Duperron sliced through the key, pumped and banked in a layup. Moments later, the lead was cut to 38-35. Duperron grabbed a rebound, faked and scored.

“The shoulder injury has affected her offense the most,” Bangs said. “But she made two real savvy moves out there. You got to admire her.”

Enough to finally give her a rest?

Said Bangs: “That’s right, I can’t start her in another game this season. She’s done.”
