Share

Titan starting pitcher Tim Dixon struck out a career-high nine and gave up only five hits over seven innings as Cal State Fullerton defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 8-3, Saturday at Titan Field.

Dixon (6-0) made one mistake, serving up a three-run homer to designated hitter Jon Macalutas in the third inning, which briefly put the Mustangs ahead, 3-2.

But the Titans (22-3) came back in the fourth on consecutive singles by Jeremy Giambi, Brian Loyd and Joe Fraser, tying the score, 3-3. Jack Jones’ safety squeeze drove in Loyd with the go-ahead run, and Dixon and reliever Mark Chavez shut down the Mustangs (9-9) the rest of the way.
