Closely Watched Trains (Bravo Monday at 5 and 10:30 p.m.) Czech director Jiri Menzel’s Oscar-winner is a wistful tragicomedy on the tangled love life of an assistant train dispatcher.

Round Midnight (TMC Thursday at noon, 9 p.m.) Bertrand Tavernier’s handsome 1986 film, loosely based on the Paris days of pianist Bud Powell, is one of the few films to reveal the world of jazz from the inside.

Al Capone (SHOW Saturday at 1 a.m.). This solid 1959 film, directed by Richard Wilson, offers one of the best portrayals, by Rod Steiger, of Chicago’s legendary gangster.
