PREP ROUNDUP : Four Swimmers Key Orange’s Victory

Four Orange swimmers--Shannon Strini, Josephina Kim, Alyson Edoff and Alyssa Kerr--won every event except one as Orange beat Troy, 107.5-52.5, in a nonleague girls’ meet Friday at Orange.

Strini won the 200 freestyle and 100 free; Kim won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley; Edoff won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke; Kerr took the 500 free and 100 breaststroke, and those four comprised the winning 200- and 400 freestyle relay teams.

In another nonleague girls’ meet:

Villa Park, 122, Trabuco Hills 48--Sophomore Sarah Gerlter won the 200 individual medley (2:31.3), and the 100 backstroke (1:10). She also swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

In nonleague boys’ swimming:

Villa Park 108, Trabuco Hills 61--Junior Brian Pharris won the 200 individual medley (2:08.7), 100 freestyle (49.6) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.5) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.5). The ninth-ranked Spartans are 6-0.

Servite 91, Sonora 79--Miguel Espinoza won the 100 butterfly for Servite (5-1), and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team.

In Golden West League softball:

Rosary 4, Saddleback 0--Julie Luna pitched a one-hitter for Rosary (5-3, 1-2), striking out four. Luna went two for three with a double and a run batted in.

In the Charter Oak softball tournament:

La Habra 5, Walnut 4--Amber Duarte got a hit in the gap with two outs in the fifth, scoring Aimee Weathers in La Habra’s victory. Brooke Koehler had a double and two RBIs and Jenny Topping added an RBI double for La Habra (5-0). The Highlanders will play La Puente Bishop Amat at 5 p.m. today.

In nonleague softball:

Newport Harbor 2, Edison 1--Lauren Jolliffe had two hits and scored both runs for host Newport Harbor (5-3-1). She also stole two bases. Lori Metcalf and Stephanie Gosselin had run-scoring singles for Newport Harbor.

Orange Lutheran 4, St. Margaret’s 0--Tiffany Johnson pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 for Orange Lutheran (6-1). Johnson improved to 3-0.

Villa Park 3, Loara 1--Kendra Wood had two triples, drove in a run and scored another. Pitcher Tammy Kincaid gave up three hits and struck out six and third baseman Heather Culver was two for three with a triple and a run scored for Villa Park (6-4).

Brethren Christian 1, Mission Viejo 0--Brooke Hofstetter gave up two hits, but still faced the minimum thanks to two double plays for Brethren Christian (5-2) at the Cerritos Sports Complex. Hofstetter also struck out 10 and scored the game’s only run on a second-inning throwing error.

Santa Margarita 2, Lakewood St. Joseph 1--Jackie Farmer pitched a three-hitter for Santa Margarita (5-6). Leea Harlan had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles.

In Sea View League boys’ tennis:

Irvine 15, Newport Harbor 3--Seniors John Manley and Sidd Khanijou swept, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, in doubles for Irvine (7-3, 1-0).

Woodbridge 14, Santa Margarita 4--Jonny Biorkman swept at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-0, 6-0, for Woodbridge (7-1, 1-0).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Mission Viejo 13, Canyon 5--Eduardo Kohlberg swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 for Mission Viejo (5-3).

Mater Dei 10, La Quinta 8--Bret Hankey won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles for Mater Dei (4-4), and No. 2 Paul Kerwin swept, 6-0, 6-4, 6-1.
